Long ignored by international investors, this is the place where good and afforable real estate deals can still be found. One of the only places in the country with titled beach front real estate properties.

The city of Puntarenas, also known as the "Pearl of the Pacific", features a small old town with the characteristics of a historical center. There are buildings of architectural and historical interest.

At just four meters above sea level, the city or port of Puntarenas features extensive beaches for enjoying sea and sun. Historically it is the place for national tourism and recreation, but it offers a variety of quality tourist services appealing to international visitors as well.

Puntarenas now boasts a cruise ship terminal, which has a series of piers and docking areas from which ferries depart for established tourist destinations, as well as tours around the islands and mangrove swamps in the Puntarenas estuary.

The beach, awarded with the ecological Blue Flag, stretches along Puntarenas' entire coast between the mouth of the Río Barranca, know for its famous left-wave surf and the place known as La Punta, where this extensive length of shoreline end. The only Beach Boulevard in the country, "Paseo de los Turistas", is the stretch between the Cruise Ship Terminal and La Punta. It is the place to be for relaxation and leisure with its numerous hotels, restaurants, bars and other services. Besides swimming, strolling along the beach and souvenir shopping, visitors can enjoy other water sports and activities, such as boat tours. This is also where the well-known carnival takes place each summer.

Forming part of the inner Gulf of Nicoya , the estuary in the back of the land strip features a beautiful mangrove swamp, a wildlife refuge that serves as a nesting ground for different birds. The estuary's calm waters also give anchorage to all kinds of fishing boats, sailboats and tourist yachts that lend the maritime scenery special interest and appeal.
